Is The Batman sequel going to be worth the wait? Writer Mattson Tomlin gives fans a tease of the high bar he hopes to cross with the project.
In many ways, The Batman is suffering from its own success. The project has been hit with delay after delay due to the ever-shifting media landscape of Warner Bros. Discovery. However, instead of the usual “it’s dead” memes that would usually come from circumstances like this (see: Blade), fans have only grown more and more hype for the sequel.
As such, expectations for The Batman Part II are truly atmospheric. The stress of having any sequel live up to the original is massive. But when it comes to a franchise like The Batman, the bar is so high that a kangaroo on a pogo stick could likely barely crest it. This has left some fans to worry if the pressure may be causing the creative team to overthink their work.
The Batman Writer Speaks On Sequel
Yet it seems as though the team behind The Batman is more than ready to face the challenges of creating such a highly-anticipated sequel. Writer Mattson Tomlin took to social media to tease the hard work that has been going on behind-the-scenes for the project, expressing his excitement in fans being able to see it on the silver screen.
“We worked exceptionally hard to tell a story worthy of the character. Something that feels new and dangerous. The bar couldn’t be higher. Looking forward to people seeing it and being able to talk about it at length. Can’t begin to describe what this film means to me.”
All signs point to The Batman sequel starting production later this year. While this still leaves fans with a few months of waiting until set photos come out, and even longer until the film finally hits screens, the drought of anticipation seems to finally be over. Although this does mean the flood of “This sucks, actually” is likely only just beginning.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe.
