‘The Batman’ Will Focus On Year Two Of The Dark Knight’s Career

Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman will focus on The Dark Knight’s second year as a vigilante.

Late Thursday afternoon, fans launched into a frenzy online when Matt Reeves dropped the first official look at Robert Pattinson’s Batman suit. The suit from The Batman is quite reminiscent of the outfit seen in the Batman: Arkham games as they both feature mechanical pieces of body armour. The suit from The Batman also has a cowl that’s evocative of Zorro’s mask and notably lacks the iconic white-eyes that The Dark Knight has spotted in previous incarnations.

In their piece on Robert Pattinson’s suit for The Batman, The Wrap revealed that the film will focus on The Dark Knight’s second year as Gotham’s saviour. It’s been confirmed for quite some time that the latest film to focus on The Dark Knight wouldn’t be an origin story. However, for Matt Reeves to position The Dark Knight’s latest outing in his second year would mean that we’ll be seeing a Batman that is still learning the ropes.

We previously saw a young, inexperienced Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, though the film saw The Dark Knight quickly becoming the legend we’ve known him to be. Fans have been yearning to see a Batman that’s relatively inexperienced and is still understanding what it means to be The Dark Knight. Hopefully, Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson can make fans proud when The Batman hits theatres next year.

Full plot details on The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy from Warner Bros. with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
