Is The Boys officially cooked? Showrunner Eric Kripke reveals new details about the final season of Amazon Prime Video’s flagship superhero series.
The Boys is the next of the streaming juggernauts to come to an end. And to say that expectations are high is an understatement. Almost every major series with multiple seasons has managed to faceplant its ending over the past few years: Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, The Umbrella Academy. So with The Boys reaching its final season, it’s clear showrunner Eric Kripke is feeling the pressure to actually perform.
Sitting down with SFX Magazine, Eric Kripke gave fans some new information heading into the final season of The Boys. Specifically, the showrunner sets the scene of how the world has changed under Homelander. He also admits that, while he doesn’t have the budget of a project like Game of Thrones, he hopes that he can at least pull off a satisfying ending.
“It’s just a totally transformed world. It’s Homelander’s world and, unfortunately, we’re all living in it, Starlight is mounting a desperate resistance, but The Boys are scattered. Frenchie, Mother’s Milk, and Hughie have been captured. We talked a lot about the French Resistance and prison camp breaks.”
“We were really working our way through that kind of season. I mean, there are not full battle scenes because we still don’t have Game of Thrones‘ budget, but there are a lot of very direct confrontations; a lot of the people that you want to see smashing into each other smash into each other. I hope it’s cathartic and emotionally satisfying, but I’m a tiny bit terrified.”
The Boys’ Final Showdown
Eric Kripke’s comment about “direct confrontations” should excite fans who have been watching drama brew throughout the seasons. The Boys has dozens of rivalries to clean up heading into its final season, from Mother’s Milk getting revenge on Soldier Boy to Starlight finally kicking the tar out of The Deep.
However, perhaps the confrontation fans are most excited to see is Butcher vs Homelander. It’s a fight that has been building since the very first season of The Boys. And, considering how the original comic ends, it’s likely that Eric Kripke is saving their ultimate showdown for the final episode of the final season of this show.
The Boys season 5 is set to release April 8th, 2026 on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned for the latest news surrounding the series!
