Is The Engineer making her return to the DC Universe? James Gunn suggests that the underutilized villainess may make an appearance in Man Of Tomorrow.
Superman had a lot of interesting names and faces, many of which fans hope to see return in a future installment of the DC Universe. However, as speculation mounts about which characters could appear in Man of Tomorrow, one name is left to the wayside: The Engineer. While the character was by no means bad, she does feel to be one of the most underutilized characters by James Gunn.
Though it seems James Gunn hopes to rectify those mistakes. When speaking on the Superman director’s commentary, the director remarks that The Engineer is knocked out of the movie partway through the third act. However, fans may be able to see where she ends up in the “next movie”, teasing that she may return in Man of Tomorrow.
“[Superman knocked] The Engineer unconscious,” Gunn spoke on the commentary (via ComicBookMovie.com). “She’s out of the movie. Where does she go? Well, you’re going to find that out in the next movie.”
The Engineer’s Role In Man Of Tomorrow
Given the role The Engineer played in Superman, it’s likely she’ll be playing a similar role when it comes time for Man of Tomorrow. That being, the character will likely appear as a super-powered henchmen of Lex Luthor. While certainly a shame to fans of The Authority, it’s good that James Gunn isn’t completely forgetting about the team’s characters.
Then again, it’s possible that the gap between Superman and Man of Tomorrow allows for some growth in The Engineer. It’s possible that, if and when she does return, she comes back as a hero. Potentially with her own team of (slightly more violent) misfits that attempt to make the world a better place outside of the confines of ARGUS and the government.
