Is a director’s cut of The Fantastic Four: First Steps just around the corner? Matt Shakman speaks on the possibility of more footage from the film being shown.

Fans have been thoroughly enjoying The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, the film certainly isn’t without its issues. Perhaps the biggest one fans have pointed out is that so, so many scenes from trailers and promotional material were left on the cutting room floor. While perhaps not the biggest issue, there has been some hope that the scenes would see the light of the day in the form of a director’s cut by Matt Shakman.

However, fans likely shouldn’t be holding their breath over the chances of this. Matt Shakman actually spoke about the possibility of a director’s cut during a conversation with Elite Daily. Sadly, it seems as though the deleted scenes from The Fantastic Four: First Steps won’t be seeing the light of day anytime soon, if only due to the extreme amount of VFX work done on the final film.

“There was a lot of stuff to balance in this movie, and some things had to go…” Shakman remarked when speaking on the cut scenes of John Malkovich’s character. “There are so many visual effects involved that those scenes remain unfinished, so [releasing them is] not possible.”

The Deleted Scenes Of The Fantastic Four

Of course, just because the VFX aren’t finished doesn’t mean that scenes can’t be released. Marvel infamously released a director’s cut of Avengers: Endgame that only added one scene of Hulk with unfinished CGI. Perhaps the same could be done with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, showing off rough edit versions of the scenes.

There’s also always the possibility of physical media. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is certain to get a steel book or DVD sometime in the future. If the scenes can’t be made into an official director’s cut, it’s possible that Marvel and Matt Shakman toss them on as bonus features so that fans are able to see everything that the movie has to offer.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now playing in theaters. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
