Thanks to a recent rumor about what Steve Rogers has been up to since fans last saw him, there’s been a lot of discussion about how the character is connected to Marvel’s First Family. Specifically, if there were any hints toward this revelation that fans may have missed during The Fantastic Four: First Steps and its post-credits scene.
And it seems there were answers in the post-credits scene – just not the one fans saw on the silver screen. A rumor from John Rocha on The Hot Mic reveals that Steve Rogers WAS originally set to appear in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, the planned post-credits scene was ultimately scrapped for the more direct Avengers: Doomsday tease that fans got.
“The Fantastic Four and Doom ask Steve Rogers to come with them to the MCU, Earth-616, to help them gain the heroes’ trust. This was supposedly a post-credits scene in Fantastic Four that got removed. It could still be a scene in the movie.”

Given that post-credits scene would’ve given away quite a few spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday, and confirmed Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers far earlier than how it was revealed in this timeline, it makes since that the moment was scrapped from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Especially as it seems to be a key moment setting up conflict in the upcoming film.
“Maybe initially they’re not enemies. Maybe they’re working together because something Steve did caused a problem in their world. They’re coming over supposedly to help fix it, but then Doom betrays everyone and backstabs them.”
Having Steve Rogers work with the Fantastic Four throughout a decent chunk of Avengers: Doomsday is fairly interesting, if this rumor is true. The question simply is, given the context of the scrapped post-credits scene, how long will Doctor Doom keep up his facade around the heroes? And will he even be the true villain of the film?
