One of the most enduring symbols of filmmaking is the chairs used by actors and directors. Foldable black beasts emblazoned with the names of their user and their role in the production. The Fantastic Four: First Steps doesn’t dispense with this tradition. A new set photo shows off the chairs of Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, complete with their names alongside Reed Richards and Ben Grimm in the film’s iconic font.
This set photo actually reveals quite a lot about The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Perhaps the most apparent at first glance is that Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s characters are being addressed by their civilian names: Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. This shows that director Matt Shakman and the rest of the crew have framed the story around the family first, and not their more iconic superhero names of Mister Fantastic and The Thing.
What These Chairs Reveal About The Fantastic Four: First Steps
It’s also important to note that Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s chairs are the only ones visible in this set photo. This means that the two will likely have at least one scene alone as Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. Of course, that makes sense given how integral the duo’s relationship is to the origins of Marvel’s First Family, so it’s good to see that The Fantastic Four: First Steps is taking steps to do it justice.
Behind Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s chair, you can also see someone in blue and white spandex. This set photo could be fans’ first look at Pedro Pascal dressed in Reed Richards’ super suit. However, it could also be the stunt double for himself in The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which is bolstered by the fact they’re wearing tennis shoes. This could reveal an action sequence early on featuring both Reed Richards and Ben Grimm, especially given the rest of the family is absent from the shot.
