Is the MCU totally retro? The latest teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps brings a whole new aesthetic to the long-worn franchise.
If there’s one critique that he been leveled at the MCU consistently throughout the decades, it’s that most of its films look the same. Everyone knows the complaints of over-designed suits and villains that are simply bigger, greyer versions of their heroic counterparts. Luckily, it seems that the franchise is finally learning with The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The entire marketing push for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been absolutely steeped in the aesthetic of the nuclear age. From the color palettes, to the film grain, it truly seems as though the project is setting out to be different than any other project in the MCU. And there’s no place where this mentality is exemplified more than the latest teaser.

Will The Fantastic Four Change The MCU?
For as much as people may love this teaser, they should brace themselves for reality once The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters. With everything fans know about what the future holds for Marvel’s first family, this retro aesthetic likely won’t translate to subsequent outings in the MCU, with the team likely being placed into the Sacred Timeline.
Though, if The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a success, it’s possible that the studio brings elements of the retro aesthetic into the mainline MCU. Or at the very least, follow some of its techniques. This teaser showed off that the project has much more practical sets than the average Marvel movie, which could be something translated into future projects if this one makes a splash at the box office.
