Why does The Thing have a beard!? The newest teaser answers fans’ most burning question about The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The last trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps gave fans a lot to chew on. It truly sold the internet on Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, gave a new teaser of Galactus, and even showed off some fun action. However, one thing stood out above all the rest: why the heck does The Thing have a beard?
The internet went absolutely hog wild with speculation just from that teaser. Perhaps the most prevalent idea is that The Fantastic Four: First Steps will have a scene that focuses on The Thing’s immortality. Through some manner of time manipulation, the hero will be stuck inside of a bubble where only he can age- leading to him growing a beard after centuries alone to save his family.
The Truth About The Thing’s Beard
Sadly, the truth is much simpler than comic book fans imagined in their heads. The latest teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps confirms that The Thing grows a beard just like anyone else in the Marvel Universe. He even shaves it! So, wherever that beard did come from, it’s likely a few weeks without shaving instead of the millennia fans expected.

Of course, this doesn’t mean The Thing won’t have a big sacrifice in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The hero has been described as the heart of the team multiple times. It’s likely that he’ll make some sort of big play toward the film’s climax in order to save the team. Though it’s not likely related to the beard he was shown rocking in the teaser!
