Is The Fantastic Four taking place on a different earth? Marvel’s Kevin Feige teased a unique direction for the highly anticipated reboot.
For months, it’s been rumored that The Fantastic Four would take place on an alternate Earth to Marvel’s main timeline for the MCU. While details about the upcoming reboot have been purposefully sparse, Kevin Feige recently revealed that the project is a period piece, before tossing in a subtle tease for fans paying attention to the rumors.
“Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period,” Feige revealed on The Official Marvel Podcast. “There were a lot of smart people, who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know, or that existed in the ’60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I’ll say.”
This is about as much of a confirmation as fans are going to get that The Fantastic Four takes place on an alternate Earth until the trailer for the reboot officially drops. Though it’s interesting that Kevin Feige would come out directly to tease this, potentially suggesting that set photos or other leaks could spoil this reveal if Marvel had saved it for later.
Kevin Feige’s Excitement For The Fantastic Four
It seems Kevin Feige wasn’t just on the podcast to drop cryptic teases about which Earth certain MCU projects will take place on. The executive also took time to gush about how excited he is for The Fantastic Four, claiming the reboot will allow them to explore Marvel’s First Family in a way they haven’t been able to before.
“I’m extremely excited by it because I think [The Fantastic Four] are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we’ve never gotten to play with or explore in a significant way outside of Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before, in the way that we’re doing it in that film,” Feige explained. “So I’m extremely excited for that.”
While fans have certainly enjoyed Marvel’s nods to the iconic heroes throughout the MCU, a full reboot dedicated to The Fantastic Four is certain to provide more meat on the bone than a handful of cameos. Kevin Feige has always been a massive fan of the studio’s classic catalog, so it’s certain the project will be produced with a bucket of passion!
