The Flash is celebrating its final run, with the show is set to end the CW’s Arrowverse once its ninth season concludes next week. Despite featuring the return of many fan-favorites, a key member of Team Flash won’t return for the series finale.
Cisco Ramon served as a key member of Team Flash for the first seven seasons of the show’s run, both as their resident engineer and as the hero Vibe. While many fans were hoping for his return in the ninth and final season of The Flash, Carlos Valdes has revealed he won’t be returning to the Arrowverse ahead of next week’s finale:
“I did consider it,” Valdes tells Entertainment Weekly. “Honestly, there was no way to make it happen with regards to my schedule and just all the different creative ventures and life circumstances that I was trying to juggle at that time.”
The culprit of this scheduling conflict, according to Carlos Valdes, is his new musical romantic comedy Up Here for Hulu, which was filming during production of the final season of The Flash:
“I couldn’t really make it work, which was really heartbreaking to me because I thought, if I decided to step away from the show, at the very least I have to be there for the finale to round this thing out and to really honor the full circle-ness of it,” Valdes explains. “It was really heartbreaking to not be able to make it work.”
Despite not being able to return to the Arrowverse one last time, Carlos Valdes assures fans that Cisco Ramon is living a happy life. According to the actor, following his exit from The Flash, Cisco is living his happily ever after with his girlfriend Kamilla:
“Cisco deserves the very best. Cisco deserves happiness. And I think more than anything, Cisco deserves a successful romantic life,” Valdes says. “I’d love to see him really be rewarded in so far as his relationship with Kamilla paying off. I don’t know if that means a wedding or something like that, but he had so many romantic tribulations throughout the course of the show, it would be nice just to see him really earn that payoff because he’s a softie and he’s a romantic. I feel like he deserves to get his.”
While Carlos Valdes may not have been able to return as Cisco Ramon for the final season of The Flash, the season has served as a celebration of the CW’s entire Arrowverse. Dozens of familiar faces have all returned to celebrate the show’s final run, with the finale set to be the most star-studded of them all. Cisco may not be there for the final episode, but fans will be sure to feel the Vibe in their hearts.
