James Gunn revealed where The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special fits in Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga.

Disney Plus has allowed Marvel Studios to experiment with television shows and animated shorts. We also know that there will be holiday specials. A Halloween special is reportedly focused on Werewolf By Night, and it’s been confirmed that a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special would arrive before Christmas this year.

Which Phase Is the Holiday Special In?

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was filmed during Volume 3, but takes place and will arrive before then. However, the Holiday Special was recently left off of Marvel Studios’ slate shown off at San Diego Comic-Con last month. It was also revealed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would end Phase Four, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the start of Phase Five. James Gunn has now clarified on Twitter where the Holiday Special fits in the upcoming MCU slate:

The Guardians of the Galaxy recently appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder. Here is the synopsis:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters. Meanwhile, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
