The Mandalorian star Werner Herzog reveals that he got pretty emotional when he witnessed “Baby Yoda” on the set of the series.
Werner Herzog, whom plays The Client character on the first live-action Star Wars series ever shared his reaction to the surprise appearance of “Baby Yoda” in The Mandalorian during the Hollywood premiere of the series. As you can see, Werner Herzog couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Baby Yoda:
“I have seen it on the set. I’ve seen it on the set. And it’s heartbreaking! It’s heartbreakingly beautiful.”

At the end of the first episode of The Mandalorian, the titular character (Pedro Pascal) and IG-11 (Taika Waititi) find the bounty that is revealed to be an infant of Yoda’s species. Since then, fans on the internet have dubbed the character, “Baby Yoda” given that the species itself remains nameless in the canon of Star Wars.
Right off the bat, fans felt endeared to Baby Yoda given its adorable design. Given the effect it has on audiences, it’s no surprise that Werner Herzog was also taken by the Baby Yoda on set while filming the series.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Disney+ series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.
Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the Star Wars series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
