Fans are still celebrating the return of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel in the latest trailer for The Marvels. However, eagle-eyed fans have spotted a connection to another MCU film in the trailer: Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Peter Parker and Carol Danvers aren’t exactly best buddies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only sharing a single line in Avengers: Endgame. However, it seems as though Captain Marvel’s latest outing, The Marvels, has a sly connection to Spider-Man: No Way Home that many fans may have missed. This connection comes in the form of the Statue of Liberty in the trailer featuring a brand new gold finish that was started in Spider-Man: No Way Home:
While by no means the biggest connection in the world, this small easter egg between The Marvels and Spider-Man: No Way Home serves as a bone to fans who chafed at how disconnected the MCU has felt with recent projects. Given this newest film also connects the worlds of Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and even Wandavision with Teyonah Parris’ Spectrum, it’s only fitting that it also connects two seemingly disconnected parts of the Marvel Universe.
The talent behind The Marvels
The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.
“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”
In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
