The Penguin may actually be coming back for a season 2! HBO CEO Casey Bloys teases that the show may already be in early stages of development.
The Penguin has proven to be one of the most successful projects to hit HBO in quite some time. The series recently had a stunning showing at the Emmy’s, walking away with 9 awards at the end of the night. This critical success has led many to ask the question: will the show be making its return with a season 2 sometime in the future.
The cast and crew behind The Penguin have been hesitant to confirm anything outright. The project was both expensive and time consuming. And while the numbers on HBO were good, total viewership still managed to fall behind other fall shows like Agatha All Along. However, most comments certainly leave the door open to a season 2 if there was a good idea.
Is The Penguin Getting A Season 2?
Though given The Penguin‘s generational run at the Emmy’s this past weekend, discussion about a potential season 2 has reignited. And this time, there are actually some good signs that the series may end up continuing. When speaking to Variety, HBO CEO Casey Bloys teased that ideas for a continuation have already been discussed.
“They’re kicking around ideas. Obviously, Matt’s got to get the [next ‘The Batman’] movie going. That is underway, I believe. So I think he and Lauren [LeFranc] are talking about ideas. So I’m hopeful that there will be another story to tell.”
As for what fans can expect if The Penguin does return for a season 2: Who knows? The story is likely going to be heavily dependent on where Oz Cobb and the city of Gotham are taken throughout The Batman sequel. Though given the high bar of quality met by the first outing, fans can likely rest assured that things are looking up.
