Cristin Milioti continues to steal the show on The Penguin! Magpie actress Marié Botha praises her co-star as she speaks on a potential future as the character.
The latest episode of The Penguin gave fans a deeper look into the history and psyche of Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti. Fans have continued to praise the actress’ portrayal of the iconic villain, with some considering it one of the best of the genre. They’re not the only ones either. Marié Botha, who made her debut as Magpie in the most recent episode, gave her insights on working with Milioti during the production of the series.
“It was such a treat to work with someone as experienced and talented as she is,” Botha explained. “Because I brought what I had put together and she brought her force of nature that she put together and inside of that we were able to just play off of each other.”
“And it’s so rare to have a moment like that, especially someone like me who’s early on in my career to be able to go head-to-head or toe-to-toe as they say with someone as wonderful and revered as she is was an incredible, incredible gift.”
A lot of ink has been spilled in recent years about amazing actors being nightmares to work with, so it’s likely a relief to all The Penguin fans that Cristin Milioti seems to be a pleasure to work with behind the camera. Especially given how intense the last episode was regarding Sofia Falcone’s past, and the grim fate of Marié Botha’s Magpie, considering the endeavor a gift is the best anyone could ask for.
Could Magpie Get Her Own Spin-Off?
However, it seems the past of Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone isn’t the only history fans are interested in. The Penguin gave fans just as many, if not more, questions about Magpie than it did answers. Even though the character likely won’t have much of a future in The Batman universe, it seems Marié Botha is all-in on returning to the role for a potential prequel exploring her origins.
“That would be the biggest gift to me. I would just love that. Because there’s so much, right? In all of these characters’ past. We’re so lucky to get to see Oz now and Sofia in a deeper way. And I think these characters are all so layered and so complex and so interesting and every backstory can be so developed and explored. And the fans love it! I think everybody loves a new Batman show and a new Batman character, so yeah! If that ever came across my path I would grab it with both hands. I would be thrilled.”
Given it’s confirmed there’ll be another spin-off for The Batman universe after The Penguin, it’s not out of the question for Marié Botha’s Magpie to get her own special presentation. Especially as Matt Reeves has expressed interest in an Arkham Asylum series, even if the actual project fell through at DC Studios.
