Did The Penguin get the short end of the stick? Colin Farrell gives his thoughts on his lessened role as Oz Cobb in the upcoming sequel to The Batman.
With The Batman gearing to film early next year, fans have slowly started to get information about which characters made it into the script, and what their role will be in the sequel. Perhaps the biggest example of this is The Penguin, played by Colin Farrell, who is now officially confirmed to return in the upcoming film.
However, it seems that even though The Penguin will return, he won’t be a major player in the sequel. Colin Farrell recently spoke about his role in the continuation of The Batman saga. He reveals that, while his part is smaller than what he had in the first film, the script is much deeper than any fan might expect it to be.
“I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m Ok with that,” Farrell told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it. But it’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger. I’m really excited to see it.”
The Penguin’s Role In The Batman Sequel
Given The Penguin series saw Oz Cobb take his place as the head of organized crime in Gotham City, it’s likely that his role in The Batman sequel will be as yet another source of exposition for the current happenings in the Gotham underworld. Most likely, he’ll be filling the audience in on what changes have taken place in the city since the flood in the last film.
This may be disappointing for some who hoped to see Colin Farrell finally come to blows with Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader in the sequel. However, given how different The Penguin in The Batman franchise is to the comics, it’s not likely that Farrell will ever be the leading villain in one of the films.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
