Jon Bernthal is cooking up something special on Disney Plus! The Punisher is getting his own special presentation following his MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again.
While the internet has obviously been ablaze the past few weeks with excitement to see Charlie Cox step back into the role of Matt Murdock once more in Daredevil: Born Again, he’s not the only actor making his way into the MCU. One of the most exciting for fans of the grittier side of the Marvel universe is Jon Bernthal, who will be reprising his role as The Punisher in the long-awaited Disney Plus series when it drops next week.
Though it seems the character’s role in the MCU won’t only be confined to Daredevil: Born Again. It’s been confirmed that Jon Bernthal will be playing The Punisher in his very own Special Presentation on Disney Plus. When speaking on the project, producer Brad Winderbaum teased an exciting story that can only be brought to life thanks to Bernthal’s passion for Marvel’s beloved anti-hero.
“It’s like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story. It’s so exciting.” Winderbaum told Entertainment Weekly. “Bernthal is a generational actor. He’s incredible what he brings to all the roles he plays, but particularly Frank Castle. And he’s a great writer. He knows the character inside and out.”
“Also, I love Punisher, but I love Jon’s Punisher in particular. The idea that he’s in the MCU and can bring that to the greater universe, especially the more grounded street-level stuff, is a huge opportunity and, as a fan, the greatest thing ever.”
Everything Fans Know About The Punisher’s Special Presentation
The Punisher Special Presentation is set to be directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who has previously worked on films like King Richard. Green will co-write the script alongside Jon Bernthal. The project is set to hit Disney Plus sometime in 2026 alongside the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, though it is unclear which project will begin first.
There acre currently no details on the plot of The Punisher Special Presentation. However, set photos from the production of Daredevil: Born Again suggest that Jon Bernthal’s vigilante will be dealing with a wave of copycats trying to emulate his specific brand of justice. It’s likely that the special will bridge the plot of this arc to whatever adventures Marvel has planned next for the character, be it on Disney Plus or crossovers with the wider MCU.
