Is Steve Rogers secretly the key to Avengers: Doomsday? The Russo Brothers reveal what fans can expect from his role in the upcoming blockbuster.
There’s been a lot of hype reveals for Avengers: Doomsday. However, perhaps the one that fell the most flat on its face was the reveal that Chris Evans would make his return as Steve Rogers. What was supposed to be a triumphant reveal was leaked and subsequently clowned on before it could hit the big screen. And given he got his own teaser, some fans have worried that he may be a main player in the upcoming film.
And it seems as though those fears weren’t exactly misplaced. When speaking about Chris Evans’ return in Avengers: Doomsday, the Russo Brothers teased that Steve Rogers would play a “central role” in the story, maintaining his place in the ever-growing ensemble in what may be yet another leading part for the character.
“We have a special affinity with the character,” The brothers told Empire Magazine. “We can’t see this narrative without his central role in it, basically. The special place he holds among the ensemble, he sort of retains that moving forward.”
Steve Rogers’ Role In Avengers: Doomsday
Many hoped that, to an extent that Steve Rogers DID play a role in Avengers: Doomsday, it would involve a metaphorical torch pass from Chris Evans to the new guard of Marvel actor. The predominant theories before the Russo Brothers dropped the teaser was with him either being Captain Hydra, or him introducing the heroes to the concept of the Multiverse.
As for what his role will be with this new information from the Russo Brothers, it seems as though Steve Rogers may be the main hero facing down against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. While he likely won’t be picking up his shield again anytime soon, it’s likely his “Nomad” moniker will be used once more, only this time representing him no longer having a home universe.
