The Truth Behind The ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Illuminati Cameos

The truth comes out!

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Illuminati

Hayley Atwell made her surprise return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In a recent interview for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Atwell revealed the truth many fans had suspected about the Illuminati.

The Mission: Impossible franchise prides itself on practical stunts, with Dead Reckoning Part One continuing that trend. When doing press for the recently released film, Hayley Atwell revealed that her MCU return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was far from practical, with no member of the Illuminati on set with any other.

“No, John Krasinski wasn’t there, Lashana Lynch was there, Patrick Stewart wasn’t there. So, it was weird…” Atwell told the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

It should be noted that Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had very different conditions for filming. The Doctor Strange sequel was filmed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which would explain why Hayley Atwell was isolated from other actors on the set (and why that MCU project felt particularly disjointed). It’s a shame for fans of the Illuminati that their first appearance didn’t have much interaction between members, but it’s possible it won’t be the last fans see of them in the Multiverse Saga.

The cast and storyline of the Doctor Strange sequel

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg and Rachel McAdams.

The official synopsis for the Doctor Strange sequel reads as follows: “The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. It’s also streaming exclusively on Disney Plus.
