The Walking Dead is finally coming to an end after an impressive 11 seasons, but fans won’t be disappointed with the future of the AMC series.

After running from the horrors of the apocalypse for 11 seasons, AMC’s The Walking Dead is coming to an end. The show premiered in 2010 and although recent seasons weren’t well received by critics and fans alike, it’s hard to deny that the AMC series has been one of the most popular shows of the last decade. Fans are still waiting to learn more about the Rick Grimes movie which has been stalled by the pandemic. But all good things must come to an end, and the network recently announced the show will end with the eleventh season in the back end of 2022.

However, AMC is already planning more spin-offs focusing on some fan-favorite characters. The first spin-off from The Walking Dead will follow Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier, helmed by current showrunner Angela Kang. The currently untitled series will arrive in 2023. Another existing character who might get her own spin-off is Michonne, as a film for the character was teased back in March. The second series is called Tales of the Walking Dead and will be an anthology series, telling stories from across the apocalyptic world. Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple is working with AMC on the series which will follow both new and existing characters in individual episodes as well as multi-episode arcs, allowing the writers to explore backstories as well as create some new ones. Gimple opened up about the news in a statement

“It’s been ten years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that. What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world. We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. ‘The Walking Dead’ lives.”
