‘The Witcher’ Couldn’t Fit Entire First Book In Season 1, Says Executive Producer

Henry Cavill The Witcher Netflix

An executive producer for Netflix’s upcoming fantasy series The Witcher reveals that the entire first book of the series could not fit into the first season.

Tomek Bagiński was recently interviewed by comicbook.com in promotion for the highly-anticipated series which stars Superman actor Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Given the scope of The Witcher book series and the amount of source material that is necessary in building the world that author Andrzej Sapkowski created over the course of eight books, the first book entitled The Last Wish couldn’t be fit into season 1 in its entirety.

You can read what Tomek Bagiński had to say about fitting in The Witcher’s source material into the first season down below:

“Actually the books were a lot more source material than we could fit into eight episodes. So we have to really be very, very careful with choosing which stories we want to tell. And Lauren [S. Hissrich, showrunner,] did a really great job. Not only choosing the right stories to tell the story of Geralt, but also by giving some background both to Yennefer and to Ciri. Because for us the goal was always tell a bigger story. A bigger story comes up first with the saga, and the saga there is not only about Geralt and his friends, it’s also about Yennefer, it’s also about Ciri, and we knew that we have to build those characters earlier.”
