The Witcher season 3 has finally landed on Netflix, marking Henry Cavill’s last time as Geralt of Rivia. Despite a positive response from critics, audiences have deemed this final outing as a bomb on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the first season of The Witcher was received overwhelmingly positively by fans, the tune seems to have shifted going into season 2, continuing downhill in season 3. While the first season of the show sat at an 89% enjoyment rating from fans, the second season dropped to a 57%, with Henry Cavill’s final season as Geralt of Rivia currently sitting at a dismal 44% at the time of writing.

It’s no secret that Henry Cavill’s departure from the role of Geralt of Rivia is likely a part of why fans are so sour on this season of The Witcher. However, reviews for season 3 also suggest that the Netflix adaptation straying too far from the original novels and a lack of worldbuilding remain an issue in the series. It’s unclear if the score will climb over time, but for now it seems that The Witcher remains on the back foot with its core audience.

The future of Netflix’s The Witcher series

The third season of The Witcher is currently scheduled to hit Netflix in Summer 2023. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season, with Henry Cavill being replaced by Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, best known for his work in the Hunger Games series and the Independence Day sequel.

The first two seasons of The Witcher are currently available to stream on Netlfix. Based on the series of books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and developed for television by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher also stars Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and Joey Batey.
