‘The Witcher’ Showrunner Reveals Her Biggest Season One Regret

Not everything turns out the way we like.

The Witcher Henry Cavill Ciri Freya Allan Season 2

The Witcher showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissirch, has revealed her biggest regret from the first season of the Henry Cavill Netflix show.

Back in 2019, Henry Cavill’s The Witcher debuted to an interesting reception. Critics were divided on the first season with the season currently holding a 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences, however, were much more receptive and, according to Netflix, the first season was the streaming platform’s most popular series up to that point. The second season debuted earlier this week to much more positive reception from critics.

The first season of The Witcher itself was divided into three timelines. The first focused on Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia over the decades with another focusing on his eventual lover, Yennefer of Vengerberg over a longer timespan. The furthest time in the future focused on Freya Allan’s Ciri and her fleeing from agents of the Nilfgaardian Empire. Based on what the Netflix showrunner is saying, however, she didn’t like the attention that was given to the orphaned princess.

In a recent interview, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hessirch revealed that her biggest regret from the show’s first season was not putting more spotlight on Ciri:

“I have to say that in season one, I don’t think that we paid enough attention to Ciri’s story. It’s one of my big regrets watching that season. And so we worked really hard this season to make sure that we felt like we were on the path a lot more with Ciri.”

Here is the official synopsis for Season 2 of The Witcher Netflix series:

Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

The second season of Henry Cavill’s The Witcher is currently streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
