‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Director On Captain Marvel & Valkyrie Romance

Thor Love and Thunder Captain Marvel Valkyrie

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi commented on the fan desire to see a romance between Captain Marvel and Valkyrie.

During Marvel Studios Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson confirmed Valkyrie will be the MCU’s first openly LGTBQ hero and teased that her first act as King of Asgard will be to find her queen. Since then, a large number of fans have been eager to see Captain Marvel and Valkyrie together in a romantic relationship, which Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi addressed during an interview with Wired.

Taika Waititi noted that while he has heard of Captain Marvel and Valkyrie romance online conversations, he may not want to include the pairing in Thor: Love and Thunder. Though he does not have anything against a Captain Marvel and Valkyrie romance, Taika Waiti is wary of delivering exactly what fans ask for as it could lead to the Marvel projects becoming fan-made films:

“The thing is, I think it’s dangerous for people to say too much about what they want with Marvel, because then they will tend to go the other way. You want to listen to the fans to a point. But also you don’t want to have a completely fan-made film because then it doesn’t feel like there’s any point. You want to have people surprised.”

Do you agree with Taika Waititi’s comments? Would you like to see Captain Marvel and Valkyrie meet in a different film? What do you think of a Captain Marvel/Valkyrie romance? Let us know below!

Brie Larson will reprise her role as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel sequel. Full details on the film are currently unknown, though the recently unveiled Phase 4 line-up did not include Captain Marvel 2, indicating the Brie Larson film is part of the Phase 5 slate.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman. The film will be based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster becoming the new Thor.

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 5, 2021.
