This concept art for Thor: Love and Thunder has some tie-ins with the X-Men.

Marvel Studios’ newest film Thor: Love and Thunder was perhaps the most polarizing entry in the MCU since Eternals. While the film wasn’t without its fans, it was heavily criticized for its tone, in which some felt that it went too far with its humor while it clashed with the more serious elements such as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and Jane Foster’s cancer (Natalie Portman). MCU fans remained excited at the teases of the broader franchise however, and interestingly enough, some concept art that was just revealed teased the X-Men.

This concept art from Sung Choi, who has worked with Marvel Studios on Thor: Love and Thunder, features Cyttorak, AKA the Destroyer, Lord of Oblivion. In the comics, he would select a person to become his avatar, enabling them to become the X-Men character, Juggernaut.

From the introduction of Earth-838’s Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) as well as a revelation seen in the finale of Ms. Marvel, the MCU is looking to further introduce the Mutants of the X-Men lore into the canon of the franchise. It will certainly be interesting to see how those stories are implemented, and how characters such as Thor will interact with them.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
