Does Sebastian Stan like Marvel’s casting choice for Doctor Doom? The Thunderbolts star reacts to Robert Downey Jr. making his return as the iconic villain.

Ever since it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, the internet has considered it one of the worst castings that Marvel has ever done. However, it seems that not everyone feels that way. When asked about the Downey’s return to the world of capes and tights in the lead-up to Thunderbolts, Sebastian Stan admitted he can’t think of anyone who could play the villain better.

“I hope I’m in a scene with him,” Stan admitted in a recent chat with GQ. “Is there any other guy that could pull that off? I don’t know, probably not. After Tropic Thunder, is there anything that guy can’t do?”

It’s good to hear that at least Sebastian Stan is confident in Robert Downey Jr.’s ability to play Doctor Doom. However, that may not be the most interesting part of the quote His words also seem to imply that Bucky Barnes will end up surviving Thunderbolts, thus allowing him to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. This was far from certain, especially given how long Stan has been acting in the role.

Sebastian Stan Praises Marvel Studios

Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday is far from the only critique the internet has of Marvel. Ever since Avengers: Endgame, the studio has been villain number one for online discourse. However, it seems Sebastian Stan still loves the universe, even with Thunderbolts bringing his total appearances within it up to ten.

“I’ve never been part of a company that puts so much heart and thought into anything,” Stan continued. “I think if Marvel was gone, it’d be such a big hole to try and fill up. Don’t just go out there and shit on something without offering something better.”

It’s always nice to hear actors express their love for a project they’re in. Thunderbolts itself was a project many people were skeptical of, with it now being rather high on fans’ radars. It’s possible that the same thing will happen with Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday, with the internet following in Sebastian Stan’s footsteps as they all kneel before Doctor Doom!

Thunderbolts is currently set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
