Is Marvel running out of steam? Tim Blake Nelson speaks on his experience coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Brave New World.
After nearly 20 years, Tim Blake Nelson is officially set to make his return as The Leader in Captain America: Brave New World. It seems he couldn’t be more excited! While speaking to Variety, Nelson explained how long he’s been waiting for a chance to explore his character from The Incredible Hulk further, and how this MCU film doesn’t disappoint those who’ve been alongside him.
“I deeply, deeply grieved over the prospect of not being able to come back into the MCU,” Nelson told Variety. “All I wanted to do, as an actor, was to figure out what happens to this guy. 18 years later I got to do it and I wasn’t disappointed.”
“It was a great challenge and I was guided beautifully by Julius Onah, who’s an indie director. These are real directors who want to work with real actors and give them opportunities to play outlandish characters. Marvel supports that.”
Given how many fans thought bringing The Leader back was a cheap way to bring eyes to Captain America: Brave New World, it’s a relief to hear that Tim Blake Nelson thinks that Marvel did the character justice for his return. Marvel has had a far-from-perfect track record in bringing back the MCU’s legacy characters., but Nelson thinks that the studio is doing better than people give it credit for.
Tim Blake Nelson Speaks On Marvel Fatigue
“Superhero Fatigue” comes up often these days, with many claiming that Marvel has burned out its goodwill and that the MCU is dying. Tim Blake Nelson doesn’t find that comparison to be exactly fair, with the Captain America: Brave New World star calling it unwise to doubt Marvel’s Kevin Feige and his super team.
“[Nobody should] count Marvel out.” Nelson explained. “Marvel is an unheard-of phenomenon in movie history. Kevin Feige and his studio created dozens of connected movies that exist in one cinematic universe, to use their term. There’s no comparable achievement. So no – I don’t think it’s over.”
Tim Blake Nelson certainly has a point with Marvel doing the impossible with the MCU. The proof can be seen on the faces of Sony and DC, failed superhero universes that many unwittingly associate with Marvel despite not being connected to them. And with more projects like Captain America: Brave New World on the horizon, it seems superhero fatigue is far from taking hold of the masses.
Captain America: Brave New World is currently slated to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
