Warning: The following post contains major spoilers on the season finale of DC Universe’s Titans.

The first season finale of Titans concluded with Robin making the life-changing decision to kill Batman after the Caped Crusader embarked on a murderous rampage.

The final episode of Titans‘ first season centered on Robin’s efforts to help the Gotham City Police Department take down Bruce Wayne after revealing that the billionaire is Batman, a difficult decision prompted by the Caped Crusader murdering his most dangerous adversaries. The pursuit leads to a climactic showdown in Wayne manor that finds Batman taking out the S.W.A.T. team and using Mr. Freeze’s ice gun to kill Koriand’r. When the mansion begins to collapse due to the bombs Batman detonated, the Dark Knight finds himself pinned down and reaching out to Robin for help. However, Robin embraces the darkness he believes Bruce was pushing him toward and crushes his former mentor’s throat with his foot, instantly killing Batman.

Fortunately for Batman, the entire ordeal is revealed to have been a fantasy concocted by the demon Trigon, who tried to corrupt Robin’s mind. Having succeeded in pushing him over the edge,  Trigon is able to possess the distraught hero.
