The DC Universe exclusive series Titans almost didn’t feature it’s most recognizable character: Robin. According to Geoff Johns, there was a period of time in which Robin wasn’t allowed to be featured on the show.
Speaking with CBR, Johns revealed that Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) was almost absent from Titans, which would significantly alter the nature of the series given his place at the center of the story:
“The short of it all is that we were trying to develop Teen Titans as a show for a long, long time and we had to fight really hard to get Dick Grayson in the show and that’s when it figured itself out. Like there was a while when the show, we weren’t allowed to have Dick Grayson in it for a lost of reasons that had nothing to do with creative, and once he got in there, then we started to build the show around him because that’s the main character and cornerstone of Titans.”
Just imagining a Titans series without Robin involved in some form seems wrong. Thankfully, Johns and DC were able to integrate the character so that their vision of this beloved team of heroes could come to life on DC Universe.
