While Titans has come to an end, its cast seems to have more stories left to share. Actor Joshua Orpin reveals why he shaved his head to play Superboy in season 4.
Titans gave fans a very different take on Superboy than many were used to. Following a surprise death in the show’s fourth season, Conner Kent shaved his head and took on a much more sinister identity more in line with his Lex Luthor heritage than his Kryptonian side. Of course, to achieve this effect, Superboy actor Joshua Orpin had to actually shave his head. In a recent interview, Orpin explained that he made this choice solely to avoid hours in the makeup chair:
“So they gave me the option and asked if I’d be willing to do it, which was very nice of them,” Orpin tells the Multiverse of Color. “It was either I shave my head or I wear a bald cap, and the bald cap was going to take three hours in makeup each day so I opted for the sleep-in.”
It’s always a big choice for an actor to shave their head, but fans would say that the gamble paid off. Joshua Orpin’s performance in Titans season 4 paid off in a big way, even if fans will never get to see Superboy’s continue due to the show ending. Though given Orpin has expressed interest in Superman: Legacy, it’s possible fans will see him graduate to Superman.
