Tobey Maguire opened up about his unprecedented return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It’s been over a month since Spider-Man: No Way Home was unleashed into cinemas and it’s safe to say everyone and their mother has seen it, as the film currently stands at a $1.6 billion global cume. One of the most popular films in recent memory, the Spidey threequel did the unprecedented by bringing together three generations of Spider-Men together, on the big screen. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield both returned as their respective Peter Parkers as both mentors and allies for Tom Holland’s take on the webhead.
While Andrew Garfield previously opened up about his return, Tobey Maguire has notably kept himself out of the limelight. Now, alongside Garfield and Holland, Maguire opened up about his return as the web crawler in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Speaking with Deadline’s Pete Hammond, Maguire revealed why he was attracted to a potential return after so many years.
“In that conversation, the intention, the kind of love and celebration of these movies and what it meant I think to Amy and Kevin was apparent, and to me, when artists or, you know, people who are steering the creative process have a kind of authentic, genuine intent of celebration and love, it just was so apparent in both of them, that, I don’t know, I just wanted to join that.”
Tobey Maguire also went on to discuss how he was both a fan of Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland’s take on Spider-Man and was curious to see how the trio would work together on the big screen. Maguire continued by talking about wanting to revisit the past and wanting to create resolutions for audiences.
“And I’m a big fan of Tom and those movies and Andrew. So, it was definitely intriguing, but yes, I was also going, ‘Well, what are we going to do? And that was a bit mysterious. I did appreciate what was shared, but it was really about getting together with these people and revisiting what was part of my history and getting a chance to come together. There are personal things, too, which are kind of resolutions or a way to revisit… I’m not quite sure how to put it. Just to get to get back into that. I don’t want to say close the chapter, but revisit and have certain resolutions and join in this loving and creative spirit.”
