Todd McFarlane confirmed he is not involved in Tom Hardy’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Sony’s Venom marked the first time the titular character received his own standalone film and while critics were harsh towards the feature, it proved to be box office success and a sequel is currently set to debut next summer. However, Venom co-creator Todd McFarlane was not involved in the production of the first Tom Hardy film.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Todd McFarlane confirmed he also wasn’t involved in the sequel titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. However, Todd McFarlane noted that he’s fine with this because he understands how the business works:

“Like I’ve said to people before, I didn’t even get approached on any level for the first one, and that’s okay! I don’t own that property and somebody’s spending $100 million on it, and so they can do whatever they want with it. If doing that means they say ‘Hey, maybe we should go to talk to the guy who visually created it,’ that’s their prerogative, and if they say that don’t want to do that that’s also their prerogative. I spend money every day of my life, investing my own money, and when I do that I expect to have the loudest voice at that point because it’s my neck on the line. As a businessman I get why all this happens, and they get to do whatever they see fit. Sometimes you get to have a little bit of fun with it, cool, and if you can’t then you just move on and do your own thing. It’s why I’ve got my own companies.”

Do you think Todd McFarlane should be consulted for Tom Hardy’s Venom films? Let us know below.

Directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Naomie Harris as Shriek, and Woody Harrelson as Carnage. The sequel is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 25, 2021. In the meantime, fans can turn to all home media formats to revisit the first Venom film:

Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.
