Tom Hardy Wants A Rated R ‘Logan’-Style Film For ‘Venom’

Should Venom be rated R?

Tom Hardy isn’t done with Venom just yet! The actor reveals his desire to do an rated R endcap to the franchise in a similar vein to Logan.

The Venom franchise recently finished its nearly decade-long run with Venom: The Last Dance hitting theaters this past weekend. Fans were sad to say goodbye to Tom Hardy as the Lethal Protector, in no small part due to the character never being allowed to reach the full potential that the actor could give because of constraints put on them by the studio.

While most would point to Venom‘s biggest issue being a lack of Spider-Man, others have been begging for the series to be rated R ever since it was first announced by Sony. After all, Hugh Jackman’s solo films as Wolverine ranged from mixed bags to duds before Logan. Why couldn’t an Old Man Venom story work to serve as a true send-off to Tom Hardy’s time as the character?

Tom Hardy Speaks On A Rated R ‘Venom’

Tom Hardy was asked about this prospect during a recent interview alongside Kelly Marcel, the writer and director of Venom: The Last Dance. The two were immediately gung-ho about the idea of a Logan-style film for Venom, with Marcel adding that they were desperate for do something rated r for the character.

“We’ve already got that,” Tom Hardy explained to TheWrap. “We envisioned that on Venom 2. We’re already there. We’re quick as well. It’s like we’ve got four or five movies already on the side, in different tones, with multiple characters.”

“If you ask us to do something. We’re not shy, but we have to edit down to what the mission statement is. We’re both busy heads. If we say we’re going to do something, we mean it.”

It’s interesting to hear that Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel still have so many ideas for the character. Venom: The Last Dance was billed as his final time playing the iconic role, and the movie had no qualms with making sure it stayed that way. However, given the lukewarm reception it’s getting at the box office, it’s certain nobody would complain if the duo went full Logan and made a rated R sequel that plays loose with the canon.

Venom: The Last Dance opens in theaters on October 25, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Venom series and makes sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
