Despite having officially wrapped his story as the character twice now, Tom Hiddleston is taking a third trip around the sun as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday. Yet for a film so plagued by rumors, reports, and insider scoops, there’s actually been a surprisingly sparse amount of information revealed about what his character’s role will be in the film.
Tom Hiddleston himself was asked about the project in a recent interview with GQ. While the actor has been in the Marvel game long enough to know not to give up any major spoilers, he did tease that Avengers: Doomsday is a truly surprising film, and that he has certainly contributed his part to the greater whole.
“My contribution has been contributed. It is monumental. The center of the story is absolutely brilliant, and was so surprising when I read it. It just has never been done before.”
Loki Controls The Story Of Doomsday
Of course, having played the character of Loki for over a decade, the villain’s motivations and arcs have certainly changed over the years. Tom Hiddleston teases that fans will see a more fully-realized version of the character in Avengers: Doomsday, given he has now become a true master of his own story in the multiverse.
“In order to become someone different, whose story had a different ending, he had to make peace with the things he did. It gave him the power of authorship over his own story.”
Given Avengers: Doomsday seems to focus on the heroes of the Marvel multiverse being helpless to stop the incursions plaguing them, it’ll be interesting to see how Loki maintains authorship over the conflict without making it seem moot. Though, with Tom Hiddleston back at the wheel, it’s likely the product will be something truly special.
