Tom Hiddleston Plays Coy On Loki Appearance In ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’

Is Loki coming back to the big screen?

Marvel’s Loki actor, Tom Hiddleston, has claimed he has no idea whether he will be appearing as the character in Thor: Love and Thunder.

So far, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been a key character in all of the MCU’s Thor films and has even gone on to appear in three Avengers movies. While the character was killed off in the shocking opening moments of Avengers: Infinity War, he was revisited via time travel in Avengers: Endgame. However, when the Avengers’ time heist hit a speed bump and the Tesseract landed at Loki’s feet, the trickster god took his opportunity to escape his proper place in the timeline, leading to the events of the Disney Plus series, Loki.

This makes things a little complicated. The Loki who had gradually become less villainous, spending time with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor after the events of the Avengers, is still dead in the MCU. However, a version of the character – a variant, created after the Avengers’ travels through time inadvertently spawned a branch timeline – is now alive and working for the Time Variance Authority. This could open the door to Loki returning to the big screen in Thor: Love and Thunder. When asked about a possible appearance by Total Film, however, Tom Hiddleston denied knowing what Marvel have planned:

“I’m living in a question mark. It’s all unknown. You know, I used to think that I could predict these things, but I literally have no idea. And I’m not even doing an Andrew Garfield! I just don’t know.”

Andrew Garfield, of course, repeatedly denied all rumors that he would be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, before ultimately playing a prominent role in the film. Considering Thor: Love and Thunder is just a few months away from release, it seems unlikely Hiddleston really has “no idea” as to whether or not he’s appearing in the movie, as any scenes he may have would have already been filmed.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
