Is Tom Holland ready to leave the MCU behind? The iconic actor speaks on his future in the franchise and the key inspirations behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

There’s been a lot of questions about what the future holds for Tom Holland after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While his role in the MCU has turned him into a household name, the actor has expressed his interest in retiring from the limelight relatively soon when he finally has kids. In addition, his role in the upcoming Odyssey movie has some fans wondering if the webheaded actor may be eyeing an Oscar run.

Some light has been shed on this uncertain future in a recent interview that Tom Holland did with LADBible. In the chat, the actor played coy when it came to any future plans in place for him to return in the MCU, emphasizing that his entire focus is on making sure that Spider-Man: Brand New Day tops the last film in more ways than one.

“I think with anything, it’s all about what’s in front of you,” Holland remarked to the outlet. “And right now what’s in front of us is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film…In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don’t know the answer to that.”

What Inspired Spider-Man: Brand New Day

As more and more set photos come out, fans have begun to wonder what comics served as the foundation of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Perhaps selfishly, as it may help the internet narrow down who the film’s villain might be. While Tom Holland kept the frog in his mouth when it comes to spoiling his next adversary in the MCU, he did reveal that the film has one key inspiration: the fans.

“I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that’s been my driving force in these pitch meetings. I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it’s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].”

Given how much the MCU has been swinging for the fences in recent years, for better or for worse, it’s certainly a good sign to hear that the team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slowing down enough to take some feedback. So while Tom Holland’s far future with the franchise may be unclear, it’s certain that his next outing is going to be one for the books!
