Disney Awkwardly Showcases Tom Holland’s Spider-Man At D23

The Walt Disney Company displayed a poster featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man at this year’s D23 Expo just days after news of the split with Sony broke.

After Disney proposed a 50/50 co-financing stake to continue co-producing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films through Marvel Studios, Sony rejected the terms and opted to move forward without Kevin Feige as a creative lead. While Sony is reportedly planning to produce two more Spider-Man films with Tom Holland in the role, the failure to reach an agreement with Disney means to wall-crawler will no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, the sixth biennial D23 Expo is about to get underway and Disney has displayed a poster featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man alongside Captain Marvel and Iron Man. While the poster was undoubtedly created before Sony and Disney opted to discontinue their partnership, its presence at D23 2019 is awkward considering Marvel Studios’ plans for the future can no longer include Tom Holland’s Spider-Man unless both parties can resume negotiations and reach an agreement.
