Tom Holland has commented on Peter Parker’s growth in Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy.
Spider-Man: No Way Home not only succeeded as the final film in the first Marvel Studios Spidey trilogy but also as the perfect origin story for the character. The character debuted in Captain America: Civil War and headlined his own trilogy, but it wasn’t until No Way Home that the training wheels came off and the high-tech resources from Tony Stark no longer function. In a way, Peter Parker has finally grown into Spider-Man.
In a promotional video for Sony Pictures Japan, Tom Holland opened up about how Peter Parker has grown in Jon Watt’s Spider-Man trilogy, referring to the character’s early moments in the franchise as Spider-Boy.
“It really has been the Spider-Boy, and this film is about him becoming Spider-Man. It’s about him growing up, making his own decisions, and stepping up to the plate as a full-blown Avenger. And it’s been really nice to have that dovetail between myself in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now who I am and who Peter Parker is in Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Tom Holland then went on to definitively state that Spider-Man: No Way Home is the final film in the so-called Homecoming Spidey trilogy.
“[Spider-Man: No Way Home] is definitely the final chapter in the Homecoming series. Jon Watts has done such a wonderful job of creating this genre of superhero movies that kinda hasn’t been told before. The superhero movie that’s about the kid… that is the small-town, really your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. This film is about him stepping into bigger shoes and becoming an adult and becoming Spider-Man.”
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Marvel’s No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B.
