Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a whole new chapter! Tom Holland suggests the film will “rebirth” the character with inspirations from the iconic variants.
One of the things people are most excited for when it comes to Spider-Man: Brand New Day is that it seems to be taking the franchise in a brand new direction. For as beloved as they are, fans have long-criticized Tom Holland’s tenure as Spider-Man as being rather samey, often playing into the same tropes and having him lean on supporting heroes more than his own instincts.
Yet it seems that Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be a bigger change than even the most optimistic fans expected. Tom Holland recently spoke on the upcoming film with Complex. During the chat, he revealed that the film is less a continuation of his existing Spider-Man saga, and more a complete rebirth that takes the character in a new direction.
“It really feels like we aren’t making the fourth movie. We’re making the first movie in the next chapter. This is a rebirth. This is something completely new.”

However, even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day will serve as a rebirth for Tom Holland’s version of the character, that doesn’t mean the first three installments of his saga will be forgotten. The actor would go on to explain that his new suit in the film actually incorporates elements from the suits of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, teasing he sees them as brother figures.
“I’m really glad people are picking up on the homage to Tobey and Andrew’s suit. I think the third movie was very much about paying respects to those guys. I really like the idea that he’s trying to be like his big brothers, that he looks up to them, and he sees little details on their suits that he thinks are really cool, and now that he is making his own suit and isn’t part of this bigger team.”
Given how Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems to be bucking some of the more extreme excesses of the MCU’s multiverse saga, it’ll be interesting to see how the film incorporates the inspirations from those characters without indulging too far. Though, regardless, it does seem as though Tom Holland is truly excited for this new direction for the character!
