Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Soars To $253 Million Box Office Debut

Not surprising in the slightest.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home earned a stunning sum at the box office in its opening weekend.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ new film Spider-Man: No Way Home, which stars Tom Holland as the titular hero, earned a massive $253 million at the opening weekend box office domestically. It is now the third highest-grossing opening weekend debut ever, right behind Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.

Besides the domestic numbers, Spider-Man: No Way Home had an astronomical opening weekend globally. A massive $334.2 million overseas, making it the second highest international opening without China of all-time. The Tom Holland film has now grossed a stunning $587.2 million, also making it the third biggest global opening of all-time.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home easily decimated its box office competition, with Disney’s Encanto at second place, followed by Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Afterlife at third. Searchlight Pictures’ Nightmare Alley and 20th Century Studios’ West Side Story did not fare as well this weekend, opening at $1.192 million and $3.47 million respectively.

With these impressive numbers rolling in, it’s safe to say that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is the shot-in-the-arm that movie theaters have desperately wanted to see since the pandemic massively effected the industry. These numbers are comparable to big events such as the last two Avengers films and the Star Wars sequels. If anything, this bodes well for the future of box office numbers for upcoming big studio tentpoles.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
