Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake is between a rock and a flying plane in the first clip from Uncharted.
After being stuck in development hell for years, Sony is finally set to bring its live-action adaptation of the Uncharted series to the big screen. Based on the hit video game franchise that first debuted on Sony’s PlayStation 3, Uncharted will see Tom Holland as the lead treasure adventurer Nathan Drake. Joining Nathan Drake on his first adventure is Mark Wahlberg’s Sully, who operates as a less-than-ideal mentor but a competent partner in crime.
The film will see Nathan Drake and Sully on their first adventure together, which should lead to a lifetime of daring escapades and plundering. Joining the duo will be Sophia Ali’s Chloe Frazer, a treasure hunter with a mysterious past. Altogether, they’re in search of a mythical treasure that could bring forth enough riches to pay off dozens of student loans and (hopefully) find Nathan Drake’s brother.
With the film set to hit cinemas next month, Sony Pictures has debuted the first clip from the film. And surprisingly, it’s the scene where Nathan Drake is hanging off cargo boxes attached to a plane. The scene is directly lifted from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, which first hit store shelves in the November of 2011 for the PlayStation 3. As Tom Holland’s treasure hunter tries to get back onto the plane, Chloe Frazer is seen duking it out with henchmen on the aircraft. Frazer’s addition to the scene is new as she didn’t appear in Drake’s Deception.
If the clip wasn’t enough to get you excited about Tom Holland’s latest adventure, perhaps a still from Total Film magazine will (you can also check out the cover for the issue here). The image shows Nathan Drake in the character’s typical clothes on a boat. Drake is seen wearing the same garbs in the clip above, so perhaps the scene from the still leads into the flight sequence or vice versa?
Directed by Venom helmer Reuben Fleischer from a script written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, Uncharted is being produced by Sony PlayStation Productions, with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan producing alongside Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.
Uncharted will be released in theaters on February 18th, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Sony’s Uncharted adaptation and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more video content!
