New Gods movie writer Tom King has provided an update on the highly-anticipated Ava DuVernay project.
This past May, Ava DuVernay confirmed that she is co-writing the New Gods movie with Tom King, the Eisner Award-winning comic book writer behind Batman and Mister Miracle. Speaking with TheWrap at San Diego Comic-Con, King revealed that he is set to begin work on the script the day after the annual event concludes.
“I start writing it on Monday.”
Directed by Ava DuVernay, Warner Bros. and DC’s New Gods film will be based on characters created and designed by Jack Kirby. Details on the film are currently unknown, though comic book incarnations of the New Gods have included characters such as Granny Goodness, Desaad, Godfrey, and the powerful villain Darkseid.
New Gods is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Batman, The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl and Plastic Man.
The DC Extended Universe continues with a standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime on October 4, 2019, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020.
