Is Tom King happy with the DC Universe? The iconic comic writer gives his thoughts on the recently announced cast of Lanterns and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The name Tom King shouldn’t be new to anyone even remotely familiar with the DC Universe. The writer has helmed some of the most critically acclaimed books of the past few decades, including the award-nominated Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He was also brought on as one of the earliest creatives recruited for DC Studios, being brought on as one of the primary writers for the upcoming Lanterns series.

Given Tom King’s revered status in the comic book world, fans have been wondering about his thoughts on the recent casting announcements for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Lanterns. It seems King has only good things to say about the actors recruited to join him in the DC Universe, specifically citing Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as perfect for their roles as Hal Jordan and John Stewart respectively.

“I mean, I would say I’m over the moon but that’s not far enough for a Lantern,” King explained to ComicBookMovie.com “I guess I’m over Oa? That’s pretty far. You should see these two together. They have amazing chemistry and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m not allowed to say anything except that I can say it’s awesome!”

“We’ve got the perfect cast. When you look at Kyle, you see someone who used to fly jet planes and embodies Hal. When you look at Aaron, his heart, his soul, and his strength are so John Stewart. He’s so perfect. It’s going to be great.”

Tom King Speaks Out On Supergirl Casting

It makes sense that Tom King would be so passionate about the cast of Lanterns given he’s one of the kingmakers on the series. Yet it seems he’s just as happy about the form that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is taking in the DC Universe, reflecting on a particularly heartwarming moment that came to life as a result of the series being adapted.

“It’s been surreal, man. It’s been surreal [Laughs]. Yeah, the Supergirl thing coming together. I just put this on Instagram, but the main character is named after my little niece, Ruthye, so to go up to her and say, ‘You’re going to be in a movie’ and see her face light up…it’s one of the joys of my life. It’s exciting.”

It’s heartwarming to hear that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is enriching more of Tom King’s life than just his wallet (though it’s certain his staff writer position on Lanterns is doing that plenty). With the DC Universe’s casting choices now being officially co-signed by one of the most acclaimed writers in modern comics, it’s clear that the reboot is starting off on the right foot.

The Green Lantern series Lanterns has a series order for HBO. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres in theaters on June 26, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
