‘Smallville’ Star Tom Welling Breaks Silence On Allison Mack’s Role In NXIVM

During a recent interview on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Smallville star Tom Welling finally broke his silence on former co-star Allison Mack’s involvement in the NXIVM sex cult.

In April 2018, Allison Mack was arrested on charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy, with prosecutors alleging the Smallville alum manipulated women into becoming sex slaves for NXIVM spiritual leader Keith Raniere. One year later, Allison Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and racketeering charges, with her sentencing scheduled for this September.

The cast of Smallville have remained silent on Allison Mack’s case for the most part, but Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum opened up about their reaction to the news during a conversation on the latter’s podcast. Much like the fans of Smallville, Tom Welling said he was just as stunned as everyone else to hear of Allison Mack’s role in the sex cult:

“I didn’t know anything about it. I was very surprised to read anything about it. It’s sounds very bizarre. Allison was always a nice person around me.”

Michael Rosenbaum concurred with Tom Welling’s sentiment, comparing the disbelief he initially felt to how it must feel if someone informed him a close family member murdered someone. However, Michael Rosenbaum added “things have added up” and recalled Allison Mack’s history with unrelated self-help groups during their time together on Smallville:

“And now, things have added up and… you’re sort of in the middle where you’re like, ‘Hey, I’ll always have love for Allison, but did this really happen?’ … I don’t know what to say… I always knew, back in the day, they were part of like a self-help thing, but it wasn’t even this; this was something that happened later. I remember one time, maybe it was Allison who asked me or something and she was just like, ‘Hey, you should try coming to it,’ and I was like, ‘No. I don’t know. It’s not for me.'”

On Wednesday, NXIVM sex cult leader Keith Raniere was found guilty of federal sex trafficking and forced labor charges.

Allison Mack is best known for her role in the Superman prequel series Smallville as Chloe Sullivan, the intrepid journalist who became one of the best friends and most trusted confidants of Tom Welling’s Clark Kent. Chloe made her debut in the pilot of Smallville and Allison Mack remained in the role for ten seasons until the series finale.
