‘Kingdom Come’ Fan Art Has ‘Smallville’ Star Tom Welling As Superman

Tom Welling Kingdom Come Superman Smallville Allison MackThis incredible piece of fan art puts Smallville star Tom Welling in the role of Kingdom Come‘s Superman.

Before the Arrowverse, there was Smallville. The CW series about a young Clark Kent in his titular hometown ran for ten seasons and it wasn’t until the final episode that fans saw Tom Welling in the Superman costume. Today, the actor returns as Superman thanks to this impressive fan art.

Barrett.Digital posted the awesome art on Instagram and it features Tom Welling as Superman in one of his most iconic forms. The famous DC comic book Kingdom Come ran for four issues when it debuted in 1996. It was created by two very notable names in the comic book industry, Mark Waid and Alex Ross. Now, fans have the chance to see Tom Welling bring the role to life thanks to this new fan art.

Kingdom Come won’t be the next event for The CW’s Arrowverse, instead, it will be an adaptation of George Perez and Marv Wolfman’s 1985 comic book event Crisis on Infinite Earths. The exciting adaptation was announced at the end of The CW’s most recent event, titled Elseworlds. That doesn’t mean that Tom Welling can’t make a cameo though.

Welling doesn’t deserve a second shot at Superman…he’s the one who refused to wear the outfit back when Smallville ended, denying fans the one thing they’d been hanging around to see.

    • MoRiellyMoProblems

What a stupid comment. The show was about Clark Kent’s journey to embracing his identity as Superman. He didn’t deny anyone anything.

If you were satisfied by that substandard finale, more power to you. But a lot of people I’ve talked to over the years were, like me, waiting for Clark to finally don the outfit. But Welling didn’t want to do it, so they got around it by intercutting distance shots of the suit with close-ups of Welling. Helluva way to show him “embracing his identity as Superman”…more like Tom was afraid of being typecast if seen in the uniform. Ironic that his career fizzled after that, suit or no suit.

You represent the minority. You don’t speak for the majority of us.

          • chaburchak

How many are in the majority? Do you have a list of names or something?

          • Sick&Tired

Look at how many people still want him as Superman EVERY TIME IT’S BROUGHT UP, there’s your answer. You’re in the minority.

          • chaburchak

You’re right…five or six commenters each time. It’s a veritable Tom Welling army.

  • antquinonez

That would be awesome. A Kingdom Come adaptation of any kind would be incredible. Of course, could anything beat the comic?

  • JoyandPain

Originally it was put out that we would never see him in it because it was about his teenage years before embracing his destiny as Superman. Tom Welling was only suppose to play Clark Kent, the boy learning about his destiny, not the man Kal’El embracing his destiny. So for me as a long time Smallville fan, I never looked forward to it because it was never promised. I do remember online blogs hyping up the possibility of Clark wearing the suit when it came back after season 9 due to fan support asking for more seasons. However, it was only renewed for 1 more season, season 1 the finale.
So it was during this season, the last episode, for 1 hot second LOL, we were able to, due to technology, get to see him in the suit— kind of. I remember the same thing being said about Bruce Wayne in Gotham, but I remember seeing a black Cape swing in the preview of what is to come during its final season. So my advice to young actors playing out Superhero’s early years: There is a strong possibility regardless of what you may have been told as a young teenager, you may have to done the Mask and Cape after all. With all of that said, if he wants another chance at playing Superman, I say go for it. However I must admit, Tyler Hoechlin is growing on me. Not because he does not make an awesome Superman because he does. It is just hard to get over Tom Welling.

Yes! Oh my gosh I would love that!
