Newly surfaced merchandise for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings offers our first look at Tony Leung’s “real” Mandarin and other characters in the upcoming film.

Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings is still months out, but it wasn’t always going to be that way. The Marvel film was originally slated for 2021’s Chinese New Year before moving back twice due to COVID-19. Since Shang-Chi is set for September, we could be getting our first look at the film soon. So far, the only looks at Shang-Chi have come via promotional materials and merchandise, with the latest giving us our first look at Tony Leung’s Mandarin.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Kevin Feige revealed Shang-Chi would feature the “real” Mandarin with Tony Leung in the role after the fakeout with Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3. Recently, a few Marvel Legends found their way online, and feature looks at Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Xialing, Death Dealer, and Leung’s Mandarin under Wenwu. Introduced in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, Shang-Chi is a skilled martial artist raised in an isolated compound located in China and trained by his father Fu Manchu, a Chinese crimelord and immortal sorcerer who repeatedly attempted to conquer the world. When Shang-Chi was finally allowed to venture into the outside world to do his father’s bidding, he learned about his father’s evil ways and faked his own death before embarking on a mission to take down Fu Manchu’s criminal empire.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng, and Dallas Liu.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to hit theaters on September 3, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest developments regarding the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
