Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day setting up the X-Men? The trailer for the upcoming film has seemingly confirmed Tramell Tillman’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One of the biggest questions fans have going into Spider-Man: Brand New Day is who Tramell Tillman will play. Unlike Sadie Sink, who has been rumored to play every female character not already in the MCU, there have been almost no reports about the character Tillman will be playing in the upcoming film. That is, except for one that ties him to the X-Men.
And that singular rumor has seemingly been confirmed by the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The subtitles label Tramell Tillman’s character as “Bill”. Bill doesn’t provide much, except for the fact that it’s a common nickname for Will. Will, of course, is short for William Metzger, the X-Men villain that Tillman has been rumored to play in the project.
Who Is William Metzger?
Truthfully, William Metzger is a nobody in the comics, appearing in six issues of X-Men: Children of the Atom before being killed off. However, his small role in the comics may be the key to why Tramell Tillman is playing him in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Metzger wasn’t just an anti-mutant activist; he was also the publisher of The Militia Press.
It seems as though, since the MCU already brought JK Simmons back as J. Jonah Jameson, Tramell Tillman will be taking the role of Peter Parker’s boss in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, unlike in the past, where the Daily Bugle was presented as a reputable news outlet, it seems Peter will be working for a reactionary, anti-mutant rag of a paper.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31st, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future!
