Production on Sony Pictures’ upcoming sequel Venom 2 starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock may begin earlier than expected.
According to a new listing from Production Weekly, Venom 2, which will be directed by Andy Serkis is set to begin filming on November 25, 2019.
Venom was a massive hit for Sony Pictures, grossing $856.1 million at the worldwide box office against an estimated production budget of $100 million. The studio is currently working on the sequel as well as a slew of other Marvel projects, including the Jared Leto-led vehicle Morbius, which is in post-production.
Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 is one of the newest films on Sony Pictures’ current slate of Marvel Comics films set within the canon of Spider-Man. Last month, it was announced that Sony and Marvel Studios were ending their deal, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would be exiting the Marvel Cinematic Universe in favor of his own standalone films under Sony Pictures alone. With Tom Hardy preparing for Venom 2, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man interacting in the future.
Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as Eddie Brock in the upcoming Venom sequel. Andy Serkis will direct and Kelly Marcel will pen the script for Venom 2 with Tom Hardy’s co-stars set to include returning actors Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson. It is widely believed Sony intends to release Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 on October 2, 2020, a date the studio is currently holding for an untitled Marvel project.
The first Venom movie follows Eddie Brock as he attempts to revive his journalism career by investigating the Life Foundation only to come into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with him, granting him powers and transforming him into the titular anti-hero. It’s the second iteration of Venom seen on the big screen as Topher Grace played the character in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
Venom is currently available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD.
DC Universe Debuts ‘Doom Patrol’ Character Posters
Along with the premiere of the first teaser for Doom Patrol, DC Universe also debuted a collection of character posters for each of the members of perhaps the strangest team of characters to be adapted in live-action form for DC Comics.
In particular, these new character posters highlight Timothy Dalton's The Chief, Diane Guerrero's Crazy Jane, Joivan Wade's Cyborg, April Bowlby's Elasti-Woman, Matt Bomer's Negative Man and Brendan Fraser's Robotman. These posters each follow unique designs that reflect the nature of each character and tease unique personalities amongst the group as well.
