Fans should strap in for another Venom trilogy! A rumor suggests that the symbiote will be playing a key role in the MCU’s story for Spider-Man.
With this year officially being the start of the MCU’s second Spider-Man trilogy, there’s one question on everyone’s minds: what’s going on with Venom? It has been teased for a decade at this point that Tom Holland’s wall-crawler will, eventually, some day soon, they pinky-promise, will encounter the symbiote. However, aside from a few flares in the rumor mill, nothing has materialized.
The symbiote baiting got so bad that it led to one of the very few direct retcons in the MCU. For those that didn’t see the final installment in the Venom trilogy, the film actually backtracked the post-credits scene in Let There Be Carnage that left a piece of the Symbiote in the MCU. The specimen was seemingly contained to Sony’s villain universe, keeping the villain from ever interacting with Spider-Man.
Is Venom Finally Coming To The MCU?
Luckily for fans, it seems as though the MCU is finally cashing in some of their promises. A rumor from insider DanielRPK suggests that the symbiote will play a key role in the future of Spider-Man’s story, stating in a recent post that “[Marvel Studios] wants [their] own take on the Symbiote for this new trilogy.”
Given the first film in that trilogy is set to debut later this year, and is set to feature the long-awaited return of Venom symbiote host Mac Gargan, it’s more likely than not that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature the symbiote in some way, shape or form. Though, given the history of the comics, it’s possible that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man doesn’t officially become Venom until Secret Wars.
